Dr. Jessica Huizenga Is Passionate About Helping Children To Learn

Dr. Jessica Huizenga is an individual who is obviously passionate about helping children to learn. Her passion is obvious in her demeanor and it allows her to work in seemingly frustrating roles with a passion. She is currently working at Cambridge Public Schools in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as their Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. This is a catch-all title for what is actually a great deal of work. She accomplishes this work because she tackles it with vigor.

Dr. Jessica Huizenga is certainly not new to the world of public schools. She has worked in a variety of positions all across the United States over the course of her career, which spans almost two decades now. She has worked in public schools as a Middle School and High School teacher, a department chair, a school-based administrator, and a district administrator. She has excelled in these positions because she knows there is work to be done and goes about completing it, rather than waiting for others to do so. Her passion for education drives her to work hard to ensure that these things get done the right way.

In 2006, Dr. Jessica Huizenga was named Principal Scholar for the Institute for Large Scale Improvement by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Her dissertation was the recipient of the 2012 Coburn Award for Outstanding Dissertation. The dissertation's title was “Addressing Problems of Practice and Instructional Improvement in Collaborative Settings: A Theory Based Approach”. She was also able to serve as the graduate commencement speaker for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell in 2012.
